All adoption fees are covered right now thanks to Friends of Metro Animal Services.
Donations can be dropped off in designated bins at participating Kroger stores, or directly to Friends of Metro Animal Services at 3528 Newburg Road.
This year, runners are invited to bring their dogs for an additional registration fee.
Officials said operating at maximum capacity creates "an urgent need to reduce kennel population" to make room for the "ongoing influx of stray pets."
Redemption fees will only be waived for pet owners with no previous violations.
The organization says it got a $33,000 donation from the nonprofit Friends of Metro Animal Services.
The program will allow redemption fees to be waived through Dec. 15.
Animal shelters have been designated "essential business" by state and city officials and are allowed to remain open.
An official ribbon cutting celebration will be held at the Newburg Road shelter on Monday, Oct. 21 at 9:30 a.m.
