After years of problems inside the city's jail, leaders are looking to make improvements.

Jerry Collins is reflecting on his first year as the director of the jail downtown.

A string of deaths inside the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections led to multiple investigations being launched last year.

Now, it's time for them to think outside the box.

The group is part of the first lateral-graduating class for Metro Corrections, which means the officers came from other departments and agencies.

Metro Council members called on the mayor to remove the jail director and his executive staff.

Starting pay for officers will increase to $21.32 an hour. All other positions will get an 8% raise, effective immediately.
