The family of the west Louisville restaurant owner killed by a National Guard member honored him on Thursday.

The investigator suggested the officers who fired their weapons that night violated LMPD's use-of-force policy. 

On Friday, Judge Irv Maze sided with Hume, reaffirming the jury's initial decision.

Mattingly was shot in the leg during the March 13, 2020, raid by Taylor’s boyfriend, who said he feared an intruder was breaking into the apartment and fired a single shot when officers used a battering ram to break down the door.

This sort of comprehensive probe isn't developed overnight. For Kentucky's largest police force, it's been scandal after scandal for years. 

Kim Burbrink, who was commander of LMPD's Criminal Interdiction Division, was demoted from major to lieutenant and reassigned to the Special Operations division in February for failing to "follow a direct order."
