LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The University of Louisville is continuing to reshape its approach to name, image and likeness opportunities as athletics director Josh Heird announced that 502Circle "has transitioned operations" to Floyd Street Media.
Heird made the announcement in a statement Tuesday while thanking 502Circle founder Marc Spiegel and the donors who helped establish the collective during the early years of NIL in 2022.
"During the early NIL era, 502Circle played an important role in supporting Louisville student-athletes," Heird said. "We appreciate Marc Spiegel’s leadership and the donors who helped establish that foundation."

The changes come amid a broader national shift in college athletics following the House settlement and new NCAA rules allowing schools to share revenue directly with athletes. Those developments are changing the role of traditional NIL collectives that emerged rapidly after NIL rules first took effect in 2021.
Founded in 2022, 502Circle became the primary collective associated with Louisville athletics during the early NIL era, helping facilitate opportunities and support for athletes as schools across the country worked to remain competitive in the evolving landscape.
Floyd Street Media, which describes itself as a marketing and media company specializing in NIL partnerships between brands and college athletes, had already operated within Louisville’s NIL space prior to the announcement.
According to its website, Floyd Street Media creates campaigns connecting athletes and brands through social media, appearances, content and community engagement.
"As the NIL landscape has matured, so has our approach," Heird said. "The 502Circle has transitioned operations to Floyd Street Media."
Heird said Floyd Street Media and Louisville Sports Properties — the university’s Learfield affiliate — will continue working as key partners in creating marketing opportunities "with a clear business purpose" connecting brands with student-athletes.
The transition also comes as Louisville builds out Cardinal Ventures, a commercial initiative aimed at expanding revenue opportunities around athletics. UofL also has discussed creating another entity that could help broker sponsorship, private equity and other business deals tied to athletics.
The changes do not signal an end to donor involvement in NIL efforts. Across college athletics, schools continue seeking support from donors, sponsors and corporate partners as athlete compensation models evolve.
But the landscape increasingly is shifting toward structures that more closely align NIL opportunities with broader athletic department business operations, sponsorship efforts and long-term revenue strategy.
Spiegel, in a social media post announcing his departure from 502Circle leadership, thanked donors, fans, coaches, athletes, agents, parents, businesses and administrators who supported the collective.
"I am extremely proud of what WE built," Spiegel wrote. "All of the credit goes to you, Card Nation."
He also praised Dan Furman, who has helped lead 502Circle in recent years, calling him "one of the brightest stars in the space."
For Louisville, 502Circle helped build the initial structure in a new era of college athletics.
Now, the university’s NIL efforts are increasingly being organized alongside a broader commercial strategy that includes marketing partnerships, sponsorship opportunities and new revenue initiatives tied to athletics.
