LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Try some new recipes in the New Year and surprise your family.

WDRB's Keith Kaiser gets some ideas from Gasthaus: Cookbook and Memories.

The Gasthaus German Restaurant in Louisville in the Brownsboro Center, run by the Greipel family, permanently closed in 2022 after 29 years. It was a hidden gem with authentic German flavors.

Founded in 1993 by Annemarie and Michael Greipel, this family-owned restaurant became a local favorite.

Daughter Nina Greipel compiled the family recipes, photos, and stories into Gasthaus: Cookbook and Memories.

Now, you can recreate their authentic German dishes like schnitzel, spätzle, and strawberry napoleons at home. Plus, you can ask her cooking questions in person during "Yes, Chef!", the Chef-in-Residence program at Northeast Regional Library.

It's a new experience designed to bring the community together through food, culture, and creativity.

Northeast Regional Library has extended offers for residencies to six local chefs to share their expertise and passion for cooking over the coming months.

• January: Nina Greipel

• February: Mark Pence

• March: Allen Heintzman

• April: Martha Morgan

• May: Deepa Karande

• June: Kourtnee Withers

Each month features a different chef and a unique culinary perspective.
