LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The weekend is upon us, and there are plenty of things to do and see across Kentuckiana.

Here are a selection of events, markets, concerts and more happening Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024. 

Lights on Main

The fifth annual Lights on Main at the Frazier Museum started Thursday and runs through Jan. 6

The special exhibition, in partnership with nonprofit I Would Rather Be Reading (IWRBR), will transform the museum into an enchanted holiday forest. It features three floors of trees, decorated by local schools, organizations, families and individuals.

It also includes "extensive programming, extended hours, holiday events and activities," and more.

Access to Lights on Main is included in the cost of museum admission or with a museum membership starting at $20.

The exhibit runs Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays at the museum located on West Main Street in downtown Louisville.

Blackacre's Holiday House Tours

Holiday tours begin this weekend at the Blackacre Nature Preserve & Historic Homestead. 

The Holiday House Tours start Sunday, Nov. 24. The tour will take visitors through the 1844 Presley Tyler House, guided by "knowledgeable docents dressed in period attire."

Each room highlights a unique Christmas carol from the era, with décor inspired by the lyrics and themes of these classic holiday songs.

As guests tour the home, they will learn about the Christmas traditions that began during the 19th century, including tree decorating, gift-giving, and festive gatherings.

The Holiday House Tour is also held on Dec. 1 and Dec. 15 between 1-4 p.m. The 65-piece Thomas Kincaid Christmas village and moving train will also be on display during the tour.

There is a suggested donation of $7.50 per person, or $15 per family. To schedule a tour, click here.

The Candlelight Homestead Tour tour will be held Sunday, Dec. 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Guests will be able to see what early American holiday traditions looked like, complete with Pioneer-era music, dancing, and more.

Lights Under Louisville

An annual holiday tradition in Louisville is underway. Lights Under Louisville runs through Jan. 4 at the Louisville Mega Caverns. 

The event features over 7 million points of light everywhere illuminating the cavern’s vast spaces underground wonderland with themed displays, some of your favorite characters, holiday music, lasers and more.

Daily hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. There are special hours for the upcoming holidays:

  • Thanksgiving Day 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. 
  • Christmas Day 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Phoenix Hill Neighborhood Chili Cook-Off

Described as a "sizzling showcase of culinary skills," the Phoenix Hill Neighborhood Chili Cook-Off will be held this Sunday, Nov. 24, from 12:30-5 p.m. at Hi-Wire Brewing on Baxter Avenue in Louisville.

The crown for "best chili in town" is up for grabs and open to anyone from novice chili makers to pros. The competition will be held from 12:30-3 p.m., with winners announced after. The top three winners will be chosen anonymously by tasters from around the city.

Organizers promise a "spicy showdown" of competitors going head-to-head with their chili for the "Chili Master of Phoenix Hill" crown.

Chili will be served until 5 p.m. Organizers said the cook-off will also serve as a community gathering. Donations of canned goods and dry food will be accepted for St. Vincent de Paul to help feed those in need during the holidays.

Fall Meet at Churchill Downs

Horse racing is back at Churchill Downs for the 135th Fall Meet. 

The 26-day meet is held for the next five weeks on Wednesdays through Sundays to Dec. 1 at the historic horse racing track in Louisville. 

The first race starts at 1 p.m. during the Fall Meet, except for Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 28.
