LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Orchestra will perform one of the most recognizable pieces in music this weekend: "Carmina Burana."

The piece was composed by Carl Orff in 1935 and is based on 24 poems from a medieval manuscript of the same name. One of its most famous movements is "O Fortuna."

The orchestra practiced the storied piece Wednesday morning at Whitney Hall in the Kentucky Center. Director Teddy Abrams said he has assembled a mega chorus of 350 singers from across Louisville to perform with the orchestra.

It's a huge piece of music, so big, in fact, that Abrams said the orchestra plays it only about once every 10 years.

"It's something that doesn't come around all that frequently, and when we do it at the Louisville Orchestra, we do it big," he said.

The concert is at the Kentucky Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
