LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Crestwood man has been arrested and is facing several charges after driving the wrong way on a Louisville interstate and hitting several cars in the process.
According to Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis, an injury accident was reported on Interstate 64 East near Mellwood Avenue at 10:19 p.m. Wednesday.
Ellis said Jacob Collett, 28, got on I-64E at Grinstead Drive, and then drove eastbound the wrong way, hitting several cars before crashing near Mellwood Avenue. Ellis said Collett fled on foot, but was later arrested by police "a short distance" from the scene.
Ellis said one adult from one of the cars that was hit was taken to University of Louisville Hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening.
Collett was also checked out by EMS at the scene but was not taken to the hospital. He is facing several charges including DUI, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and wanton endangerment.
An arrest report said Collett admitted to drinking three tall beers and two vodka shots just an hour before the incident. His BAC (blood alcohol content) was .228, nearly three times the legal limit.
Police said Collett told them he didn't remember the crash or how he ran away so far from the crash.
The interstate was closed for a short time while police cleared the scene. The interstate reopened around 11:50 p.m.
Collett is now facing a long list of charges, including reckless driving, criminal mischief, three counts of leaving the scene of an accident, three counts of wanton endangerment, and two counts of operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
Not guilty pleas were entered on Collett's behalf and his bond was set at $50,000 cash. He is due back in court on May 30.
