LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Colonial Gardens near Iroquois Park is again seeing some changes when it comes to tenants.
Union 15 Pizza closed its doors for good at the end of the year after opening in February 2023. Two new restaurants are coming to fill in the former spaces of Biscuit Belly and Taco Luchador.
Hokkaido Ramen and Sushi and Costa Del Sol will be the newest tenants at the space at 818 W Kenwood Drive.
The B.A. Colonial has no plans to close and is welcoming its new neighbors.
"They are different types of food so it is going to be different types of business and they might not want that and then they might come over here," said Reyselene Bolding with B.A. Colonial. "I think it will be good for the business."
Colonial Gardens was originally opened as a beer garden in 1902. It also housed a nightclub and even Louisville's first zoo before it was left vacant in 2003. South Louisville residents had the iconic white building declared a local landmark in 2008, and the city bought the rundown property in 2013. Underhill Associates then bought the property from the city of Louisville in 2014 for $1, with the promise to spend $5 million to restore the building.
The project called for renovating the 7,000-square-foot building and adding three new, one-story buildings that will share a common patio and garden area. The city of Louisville also put in more than $1 million.
Iroquois Park and Amphitheater are across the street, which bring crowds and business to the areas in the warmer months filled with events.
