CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- The taps are flowing at a new brewery in southern Indiana. It's just the latest business to move in to Clarksville.

"We have a brewery," Clarksville Town Councilwoman Jennifer Voignier said. "Clarksville has a brewery, it's unbelievable."

This is the fourth location for TEN20 Craft Brewery, but their first in southern Indiana. MozzaPi expanded with them, bringing in pizza ovens to provide a restaurant.

"This is a blank slate for us," TEN20 General Manager Jonathon Weightman. "So we were able to use some of the elements of the spaces that have worked, and really meld them here."

Tammi Gibson, the economic development director for Clarksville, said a place for food and drinks is a big piece of the Main Street puzzle. It's located in the retail space of Bolt + Tie.

"It's truly a Main Street, and this is kind of like the anchor of that," Gibson said.

Across Main, crews are in the final stages of construction at Current812, another apartment complex.

That will add more retail space to south Clarksville, so in anticipation of growth, the town has applied to create a Riverfront Development Project Area.

The district would extend about three blocks from the Ohio River. If the application is accepted, Gibson said the local district, not the state, would control about 20 liquor licenses. It would mirror existing districts in nearby New Albany and Jeffersonville.

"That allows the redevelopment commission to be able to plan out where restaurants are good to be so there's not too many. That they're spaced out and have a little bit more control over development," Gibson said.

Councilwoman Voignier believes these are crucial steps forward.

"I think this (TEN20) will be a prime stop. It's about time we caught up with our neighbors," Voignier said. "Main Street's in full bloom."

In the months to come, Current812 will open and construction will finish on the river wall and Riverside Drive. Looking toward the future, the town is designing a conference center that could serve future visitors.

Gibson said they also have their eyes on building a train station if Amtrak comes to Louisville.
