LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- When it comes to tariffs on appliances, it's no longer a case of "what if."
As of this month, the steel and aluminum content is subject to a surcharge and is already sending prices higher.
Whether you are hoping to buy furniture or a new car, shoppers have been rushing to beat high tariff prices.
Price hikes are starting to hit kitchen appliances. As of June 23, the Commerce Department slapped a 50% tariff on imported steel used in appliances.
Appliance stores are starting to see the hikes on new product that is coming in. So if you are looking at a new refrigerator, washer and dryer, or dishwasher, it may be in your best interest to ask upfront where that item was manufactured and if it is subject to any foreign tariffs.
Luckily, Maytag, Whirlpool Kitchen, and GE appliances are all American made, along with some lesser known brands.
