LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jewelry stores and gold buying shops are busier then ever this month after gold prices just recently hit a record high of $3,400 an ounce.
That's almost double than what they were a couple years ago.
Many people have cashed in on the latest gold rush with pieces of jewelry they haven't touched in years.
Even though the price of gold is down slightly from its April peak, you can still get good money.
The average thin necklace is 14 karat gold and about 10 grams. That's about $400 right now.
Now is the best time to sell if you're in the market for some extra cash.
