LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Kentucky Humane Society is selling some of its property to fund a future project.
As reported by our partners at Louisville Business First, KHS is closing its Eastpoint Pet Resort at 13310 Magisterial Drive near Old Henry Road in east Louisville on April 16, and will put it on the market later this week.
The Eastpoint Pet Resort employees about 10 people, and KHS said those employees will be able to move into other roles within the organization.Â
KHS has also listed its former Pet Retreat located at 5007 Max Ridge Court for $529,999.Â
KHS plans to use the proceeds from the sales to build a new centralized campus at 1110 Meadow Avenue off Preston Highway near Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. The organization already purchased the 5-acre property last March for $2.47 million.
“We’re trying to plan more investments. We’re trying to be more efficient, increase programs and services and also focus on our statewide programs,” KHS Vice President of Outreach Barnard Baker told Business First. “There’s a lot of exciting things we’re about to announce, but right now we’re in the middle of planning for it.”
Plans filed with the city shows the new KHS facility on Meadow Avenue will have a 54,750-square-foot building with seven play yards, an area for cats, a plaza and a donor garden. The new facility will also include adoption and fostering opportunities and veterinary services.Â
KHS also recently purchased the SNIP Clinic at 4918 Preston Highway last month for $600,000.Â
KHS will still have its main campus, the Sam Swope Pet Treatment & Lifesaving Center, located at 241 Steedly Drive.Â
