LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After shoppers filled stores on Black Friday, local businesses in Louisville were celebrated on Saturday.

Louisville Independent Business Alliance hosted two events to help shoppers find gifts while supporting local businesses. Local vendors offered jewelry, crafts and baked goods to shoppers.

According to LIBA, a study of Louisville-area businesses shows that for every $100 spent at locally, $55 is reinvested locally, while only $14 is reinvested locally when that same money is spent at a national chain.

"That is going to help our local economy," said Jennifer Rubenstein, LIBA Executive Director. "It is also going to help our community character because these are the businesses that are really unique to Louisville and kind of give us our sense of place."

LIBA's South Louisville celebration was held at Colonial Gardens. There was shopping, giveaways, music, children's activities and free coffee and hot chocolate.

LIBA's West Louisville celebration was held at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center. At the event, there was shopping, televised football aired on the jumbotron, giveaways and Santa. The first 100 adults to attend the event received $5 to spend with any vendor at the event.
