FLOYDS KNOBS, Ind. (WDRB) -- Dozens of police investigators responded Monday afternoon to Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs after school officials said a threat was made to the school.

New Albany Floyd County Schools said dispatchers received a call just after 12:30 p.m. of a threat of backpacks being placed around the school with bombs inside. The caller also told the dispatcher he was nearby with a high-powered rifle if dismissal or evacuation began, the school district said.

Around 12:45 p.m., students and staff were all placed on lockdown. Many police crews descended on the area, including at least one helicopter.

Just before 2 p.m., New Albany Floyd County Schools Chief Operations Officer Joseph Voelker sent a voicemail message saying police gave them the all clear. Students will dismiss on time, Voelker said, but all after-school activities are canceled.

"NAFCS would like to thank all of our law enforcement officials who helped out tremendously today in order to ensure the safety of our students and staff," the district said in a written statement Monday.

Police will do another sweep of the school and grounds "out of an abundance of caution," Voelker said.
