LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Funeral arrangements have been set up for a Louisville Metro Corrections officer who was killed in February.
Michael Wehdah, 44, was found shot to death in the 2700 block of Cedar Street in the city's Russell neighborhood Feb. 16.
Wehdah came to America for a better life. He immigrated from Liberia in 2022 before getting a degree at the University of Louisville. Wehdah also celebrated another kind of graduation in November: becoming an officer with Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
A visitation and funeral will be held at Fern Creek Baptist Church at 5902 Bardstown Road. Visitation hours will be March 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a Fraternal Order of Police service at 4 p.m. The funeral will be held March 15 at 10 a.m.
Metro Corrections and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 77 have set up a memorial fund for Wehdah's family. On March 4, the Roosters on Dixie Highway will host a buffet-style fundraiser from 6-9 p.m. It will cost $5 for children and $17 for adults, and $8 of each sale will be donated to Wehdah's family.
Corrections Officer Michael Wehdah was found dead in an alley off Cedar Street in the city's Russell neighborhood.
LMPD's Homicide Unit is still investigating Wehdah's murder, and a motive of the shooting is unclear. No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about what happened to Wehdah is asked to call LMPD's Crime Tip Line at 502-574-5673. Tips can also be submitted anonymously online through the department's Crime Tip Portal by clicking here.
