LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a person of interest in a January homicide.
LMPD said a man was hanging outside of a vehicle died when he was hit by another car Jan. 23. Officers were called to the area of South 4th Street and Winkler Avenue around 7 p.m. on a report that a person had been hit by a vehicle. It's not far from the University of Louisville campus.
Police believe the man was "hanging on the outside of" a vehicle that was driving down South 4th Street near Winkler Avenue. Police initially said the driver of the vehicle "reportedly swerved into oncoming traffic intentionally," hitting another vehicle. That caused the man to collide with that vehicle, causing fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police initially believed the driver of the vehicle was detained, but later said the person they stopped wasn't responsible.
The driver of the vehicle the man was hanging out of fled on foot, but was later apprehended in the area of 7th Street and Algonquin Parkway and taken into custody
LMPD's Homicide Unit and Traffic Unit are investigating. There were no other reported injuries, according to Bradley.
