LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man is behind bars after allegedly robbing a Jeffersonville retail store twice Friday afternoon.

The Dollar General at 1750 Allison Lane was robbed two separate times in the span of four hours, Jeffersonville Police spokesman Det. Cpt. Sam Moss said in a statement.

The first robbery happened about 1:30 p.m. when a man reached across the counter and stole cash then fled the scene. Then, around 5:30 p.m., the same man came back. Employees immediately recognized him from the previous incident, and called police, Moss said.

Police said the man, identified as John Towns, was arrested during the second robbery attempt. When interviewed by police, Towns said he was the "world's dumbest criminal" when he returned to the same store to rob again.

Towns is charged with two counts of robbery and is being held at the Clark County Jail.
