Indiana State Police spokesperson Sgt. Carey Huls said they were contacted by Austin Police and Scott County Sheriff's Office about 2:30 a.m. Thursday after finding a man and a woman on the side of York Road in Austin, Indiana.
Police said they also found an unoccupied car nearby. Both people had stab wounds and were taken to Louisville hospitals, Huls said.
Police said 22-year-old Nicholas Braydan Atwood, of Vallonia, Indiana, stabbed the woman after the two were driving together in rural Scott County.
