LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Ā A string of shootings in Louisville has left five dead in just 24 hours, all on Mother's Day weekend.

The first deadly shooting happened early Saturday morning in the Southland Park neighborhood. Later that afternoon, someone shot and killed a man in the Lyndon area. Shortly after, another fatal shooting took place in southwest Louisville and just before midnight, a man died in a shooting in Okolona.

"They gave me his belongings, his jewelry, andĀ  his lighter. And that's when I actually found out it was him," Melissa Flores, whose son died Saturday, said.

It's the news no mother wants to hear. Melissa Flores was leaving the grocery store when she found out her son, 18-year-old David Martinez, was found shot to death, near train tracks, in southwest Louisville.

"He didn't deserve what happened to him. He is a hard worker here. They're kind of hard and he was willing to give me the perfect chance," Flores said.

Martinez was one of five people shot and killed in Louisville Saturday.

"At first, I didn't really want to believe in this. Because like, nobody does,"Ā Laileonna Hunt, Martinez's girlfriend, said.

The first shooting took at The Hot Spot in the Southland Park neighborhood.Ā Two men were killed and two other adults were hurt.

Then Saturday afternoon, a 31-year old man was shot several times in Lyndon at the Devonshire Apartments. He died at the scene.

"People are losing another family member, another friend and are all young. And it's like seriously, when is it going to stop?" Kyndra Cooksey, who lives in the neighborhood where it happened, said.

Shortly after, Martinez was shot several times and found on railroad tracks.

"I just don't want him to be forgotten. Like there's a lot of unsolved homicide cases that kind of just get swept under the rug and I don't want him to be one of those cases," Hunt said.

Then, just before midnight, a man was killed in the Okolona neighborhood nearĀ Preston Highway.

"Nobody deserves, no matter what they did, or who they hurt, no one deserves to get murdered. They have friends and family who have to deal with the aftermath of what happened," Flores said.

Flores said Martinez would've turned 19 at the end of this month. He also had a baby on the way.

The family set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses for Martinez. To donate, click here.
