LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A job within the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Clothing Assistance Program (CAP) is on the chopping block as part of the district's newest budget cut proposal.
The proposal is to cut $142 million from the budget to address what is projected to be a $188 million shortfall in the 2026-27 budget.
JCPS released organizational charts earlier this week showing 178 new positions planned for next year. It also showed 213 occupied positions, and 74 open positions would be eliminated.

One of those is Justin Willis' position as the parent relations coordinator which oversees CAP.
CAP has been around for over 50 years, and its main goal is to help clothe JCPS students and their families. They also provide household items and hygiene products. Not just for the student, but their sibling and parents as well.
Ann Stein and Barbara Fischer have been volunteering with CAP for over a decade. They say Willis has grown it by creating connections with large corporations who donate to the program.
"I think they need to fully look at what the job description is because it's not just sorting some clothes, you're running a small business," Stein said.
According to the JCPS salary database, Willis makes $104,928. Meaning, he's the 1,014th highest paid JCPS employee.
"I don't think in the long run they'll save a few dollars when they find out they can't do the program, what he does, has done and will do," Fischer said.
WDRB was told a clerk will keep their position at the organization.
Within the Opportunity and Access job descriptions sheet, the supervising responsibilities for CAP will fall on the person who holds the title of "Opportunity and Access Specialist".
The school board will vote on the budget proposal in a special-called meeting on Friday Feb. 13.
