Harbor House Child Enrichment Center open 10-10-25

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new child enrichment center is serving children and adults, with or without disabilities, in one inclusive environment.

Harbor House of Louisville cut the ribbon on its new Child Enrichment Center Friday morning.

The center is unlike any other in Louisville. It is intergenerational, offering children and seniors opportunities to engage together.

It will also provide care and services to children and adults with disabilities who may otherwise be left out.

The center uses the Reggio Emilia approach, which is similar to Montessori in that it emphasizes learning through play.

"It provides services to those children and to those adults who otherwise may be left out, and our seniors as well," Maria Smith, Harbor House CEO, said. "Instead of putting them in different groups, the seniors in one area, the children in one area, and people with disabilities in another area, we've brought them together to serve one another and to serve our community better."

Harbor House said the new facility was made possible with the help of community partners.
