LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Kentucky man who was charged with battery on a Florida police officer after winning the Kentucky Powerball jackpot, waived his right to a probable cause hearing, reported by LEX18.Â
James Farthing, 50, of Georgetown was arrested near St. Petersburg for allegedly kicking a police officer in the face during a bar fight. According to court affidavits, Farthing and his girlfriend, Jacqueline Fightmaster, 42, were both taken into custody April 29 following a fight at the TradeWinds Resort at St. Pete's Beach.
Records show Farthing allegedly punched a hotel guest in the face and kicked a Pinellas County sheriff's deputy in the face during the fight. The report said Farthing tried to run after the encounter, but didn't make it far. The deputy was left with swelling and redness to the right side of his face.
He was arrested and charged with felony battery on a law enforcement officer and two misdemeanors including battery and resisting an officer.Â
But Monday, the Kentucky Parole Board told LEX18 that Farthing requested to serve out the rest of his sentence. His hearing was scheduled for June 11 in Scott County.Â
Farthing's current serve out date is Aug. 27, 2025.
Farthing and his mother, Linda Grizzle, were at Kentucky Lottery headquarters in April after winning the Powerball jackpot on a $2 ticket. The pair said they would share the $167.3 million, which is the largest prize ever awarded in Kentucky. The ticket was purchased at the Clark's Pump N Shop in Georgetown.Â
