LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Unwanted tires can be dropped off for free this week.
Any Kentucky resident can drop off tires at 1030 Phillips Lane, across the street from the Kentucky Expo Center, through Saturday, Oct. 7. Drop-times for Friday are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There have been 1,400 reports of illegal dumping in Kentucky so far this year.
"These events are so helpful to people in the community because a lot of people have waste tires that they just don't know what to do with," Jenny Carr, Kentucky Environmental Scientist, said. "They're a harbor for mosquitos, snakes, pests."
Metro Public Works also said anyone can drop off unwanted materials at the Waste Reduction Center on Meriwether Avenue, however, there is a small fee for items.
