LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky travelers flying without a REAL ID or other accepted identification will soon have a backup option — for $45.
Starting Feb. 1, passengers can use TSA ConfirmID, the Transportation Security Administration’s new identity verification system, to confirm their identity before reaching the security checkpoint. The process usually takes 10 to 15 minutes and, once approved, is valid for 10 days.
“Those who do not want to pay the $45 fee for the modernized ID verification still have time to get their REAL ID compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of ID,” Ray Williams, TSA’s Federal Security Director for Kentucky, said in a news release.
REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses, U.S. passports, military IDs, permanent resident cards, and trusted traveler credentials like Global Entry are accepted. Temporary driver’s licenses are not.
More information on REAL ID and acceptable identification can be found at online, or by texting “AskTSA” to 275-872.
