LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police officials are investigating after a fatal crash left a man dead early Monday morning.

According to LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash around 12:18 a.m. on Shelbyville Road at Bircham Road.

It's believed the man was traveling eastbound on Shelbyville Road when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. He continued on to hit a utility pole and came to a stop in the tree line, Mitchell said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
