LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville leaders will hold a public meeting next week about an ongoing project to reimagine the 9th Street corridor downtown.
The Reimagine 9th Street project will transform three vital corridors in an effort to improve safety, connectivity and access between downtown and the city's west end. Those include 9th Street/Roy Wilkins Avenue, Muhammad Ali Boulevard and Chestnut Street/River Park Drive.
The meeting will focus on updates and the timeline of the Muhammad Ali Boulevard and Chestnut Street one-way to two-way conversions as part of the Reimagine 9th Street project.
Work started last summer, and is expected to pick back up again "soon."
The meeting comes as city leaders said the project is in its final design phase. The next phase will transform 9th Street from a six-lane thoroughfare into a "narrower, community-focused corridor designed to slow traffic and create more active public spaces" encouraging "human interaction and economic development."
Other improvements include public amenities, art and green spaces.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. next Wednesday, June 3, at the Baxter Community Center on West Liberty Street. Leaders said it will be "open-house style," meaning the public can drop in at any point to review project displays, ask questions and learn more about the project.
