LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville residents looking to spruce up their neighborhoods can now apply for funding to bring their ideas to life.
Mayor Craig Greenberg announced Monday that applications are open for the city's Love Your Block mini-grant program. The grants range from $100 to $5,000 and are designed to support resident-led projects that improve neighborhoods and public spaces.
The initiative is part of Louisville's broader violence prevention strategy and encourages neighbors to take the lead in strengthening their own communities.
"This is a great way for residents to turn their ideas into reality," Greenberg said in a statement, adding community-driven efforts play an important role in his Safe Louisville Plan, helping residents feel both safe and proud of where they live.
The program is supported by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University and part of the national Love Your Block effort, which partners city leaders with residents to tackle neighborhood improvements block by block.
Louisville was selected in 2024 as one of 16 cities in the largest Love Your Block cohort to date. Since the program began in 2009, nearly 50,000 people nationwide have taken part in projects that transformed close to 4,000 public spaces. Those efforts included creating hundreds of art displays, removing graffiti and clearing millions of pounds of trash.
This year, the city is expanding eligibility to additional west Louisville neighborhoods. In addition to Shawnee, residents in the Chickasaw, Parkland, Russell and California neighborhoods can now apply for funding.
City officials said projects could include transforming vacant lots into community gardens, repairing playground equipment, cleaning up public rights-of-way and other hands-on improvements that address local needs.
Residents interested in applying can find more information through the city's Office of Violence Prevention.
