Louisville Zoo unveils new mural created by local artists

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new mural created by a group of local artists will welcome visitors at the Louisville Zoo.

Often Seen Rarely Spoken created the mural, which features a series of animals at the zoo's entrance.

OSRS is a local art collective that formed in 2016 and has created more than 200 murals regionally, collaborating with organizations like the Belle of Louisville, Racing Louisville FC, the KFC Yum! Center, Norton Children's Hospital and Louisville Slugger.

"We thoroughly enjoy contributing art to the visual culture of Louisville and think it's important to capture the opportunity to communicate on blank wall space," the group said in a news release on Wednesday. "The zoo is an icon of the city that we all grew up coming to, so it feels full circle coming back as adults to add a piece in the entryway that will be seen by every single person that comes to the zoo. Literally thousands of kids might be inspired by this art in the coming decade, and that effect is hard to measure right now, but we know it's going to be impactful."

Zoo officials said it took the group a week to finish the mural. OSRS said they wanted to create something that "would resonate with visitors of all ages and become an integral part of their zoo experience."

"The new mural space was a perfect canvas for some animal artwork and nicely complements the new entrance signage that we installed last year," Louisville Zoo Director Dan Maloney said in a news release.
