LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Metropolitan Sewer District is offering a 30% discount to low-income customers on wastewater bills.
MSD is offering the discount through its Emergency Wastewater Rate Assistance Program and Senior Citizen Discount Program. The discounts are available for qualified customers in Jefferson, Bullitt and Oldham counties.Â
"We recognize the financial difficulties many are facing," MSD Executive Director Tony Parrott said in a news release Wednesday. "These rate relief programs are a vital lifeline for many in our community."
The Emergency Waste Rate Assistance Program is a 30% discount on wastewater charges for ratepayers whose household incomes are at 150% of the poverty line or below. People can apply by clicking here or calling 502-540-6000. The discount is valid from Nov. 1, 2024, through Oct. 31, 2025, but participation is capped at 3,000 households.
The Senior Citizen Discount Program is for customers 65 or older who have a gross annual household income of $35,000 or less may apply for a 30% discount on wastewater service charges. Customers eligible for the discount must recertify every three years or as determined by MSD.
According to a news release, MSD has contributed $1,000,000 through the local Community Ministries and the Louisville Water Foundation's Drops of Kindness program that helps customers pay their water and sewer bill.Â
