LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new interchange on Interstate 71 in Oldham County opened on Wednesday
Exit 20 opened to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic in La Grange and around Oldham County, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
"This transformative project addresses traffic challenges on a national highway and upgrades infrastructure to support future growth," Gov. Andy Beshear said in a news release. "With this new interchange, we are creating safer, more efficient travel while fostering a stronger, more connected community for Kentuckians."
The nearly $16 million project began in fall 2022. It's located on I-71 at La Grange Parkway between KY 393 and KY 53. The interchange provides a direct connection to La Grange Parkway and local roadways.
"These ramps are more than just pieces of infrastructure, they represent opportunities," Oldham County Judge Executive David Voegele said in a news release. "As we celebrate this achievement, let us remember that it’s not just about concrete and steel – it’s about the positive impact these ramps will have on our daily lives and our collective future."
KYTC said the interchange will help other interchanges in Oldham County be less congested and improve emergency response times.
