LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Children with cancer and their families in Louisville are getting more help.
Norton Children's Hospital dedicated its new Cancer Institute Resource Center Wednesday morning.Â
The new space, on the 8th floor of the Novak Center for Children’s Health on East Chestnut Street in downtown Louisville, combines medical care with emotional, educational and financial support programs all in one place.
The center aims to offer holistic care without barriers.
"The research center is a game changer for families for its goal is to make what is most stressful part of their lives a little bit better," Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman said. "It goes beyond medical treatment offering support for whole families."
The center was made possible by a $1.6 million investment by the Norton Children's Hospital Foundation and community donors. An additional grant for $976,000 from the Kentucky Pediatric Cancer Research Trust Fund will give operational support to the center.Â
The Norton Children's Cancer Institute treats more than 7,000 patients each year.
