LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former legislative aide who is battling Metro Council in court has entered the race for Louisville mayor.
Government watchdog Tina Burnell announced her candidacy on Monday. She previously worked as a clerk for Councilwoman Crystal Bast, who represents southwest Jefferson County.
Metro Council filed a lawsuit against Burnell after she spoke out about the city’s $6 million settlement with developer LDG. That agreement also required changes to zoning laws.
Burnell has called it a back-door deal, alleging the ordinance change was agreed to before being publicly discussed in a council meeting.
Metro Council claims she violated policy by disclosing information from an executive session.
Burnell joins a growing field that includes Mayor Craig Greenberg, Councilwoman Shameka Parrish-Wright, Jeffrey Yocum, Bob DeVore, and Matthew Solomon Bailey.
Due to changes in state law, 2026 will be Louisville’s first nonpartisan mayoral race.
