LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A section of Brownsboro Road in east Jefferson County is scheduled to be closed for the next 11 days to improve safety.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet closed a section of the roadway for the KY 22 and Springcrest Drive intersection improvement project. Brownsboro Road will be closed completely between Cliffwynde Trace and Pine Hurst Lane through June 28.
According to KYTC, after the 11-day closure, the existing lane closure on Brownsboro Road as well as the closure of Springcrest Drive will continue through project completion, which is expected for fall 2024. Crews will add pipes under the road.
Crews are reconstructing two 11-foot travel lanes and a left turn lane at the Springcrest Drive intersection. A 6-foot sidewalk will be installed along the north side of KY 22 between the entrance just east of Cliffwynde Trace and Brownhurst Cove Road.Â
Drivers are encouraged to travel with caution, follow detours and anticipate delays.
Small businesses like the Holiday Manor Barber Shop have seen several late appointments due to the traffic back up over the last several months.
"When you combine hospital traffic with the bridge traffic it does slow us down," said Scott Michals. "It is hurting our business somewhat. Is it a snowball effect? Yes it is and it's only temporary and once the improvements to the infrastructure are made I think it will help business."
Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area by taking Highway 42 up to Interstate 265 or Herr Lane to Westport Road.
