LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Cold temperatures weren't enough to keep Louisville runners from participating in another Thanksgiving tradition.
Hundreds of families from the Louisville area worked up an appetite Thursday morning the Northeast YMCA Branch Turkey Day Fun Run.
Runners and walkers receive a commemorative T-shirt and finisher’s medal for completing the 10k, 5k, or Kids’ Trot.
The races also came with a view of the Ohio River, as joggers ran throughout Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville.
Christina Faulkenburg from the YMCA said the run is a good opportunity to burn a few calories before sitting down at the Thanksgiving table.
"I think it gives a chance for families and people who are out of town a chance to start their day early and being thankful for another day here," she said.
The Turkey Trot Fun Run and Walk has been a tradition for more than 50 years.
