JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- As southern Indiana residents dig out from the weekend winter storm, cleanup efforts vary widely by location, with some areas tackling lingering ice and snow more effectively than others.

Matthew Edwards of Sellersburg spent Tuesday morning breaking through ice-packed driveways with a steel shovel. Despite being used to snowy winters from his time living in northern Idaho, Edwards noted that ice presents a tougher challenge.

"This isn't the light, fluffy stuff," Edwards laughed while working outside his business.

While Sellersburg's roads have been well-maintained, conditions just 20 miles north in Scottsburg remain more difficult as of Tuesday afternoon. Carrie Lamb, who works from home, spent her lunch break shoveling her driveway with a broken shovel.

"I've learned I have no upper body strength," Lamb said, adding that her efforts have been manageable so far. "We haven't lost power or internet, so I've been able to work and stay warm."

Local hardware stores, including Scott's Hardware in Scottsburg, saw a surge in demand for storm supplies. Owner Scott Howser said shovels sold out quickly, and ice scrapers are in short supply.

"We've been selling a lot of straw for pet bedding — that's been a big item this week," Johnson said.

With more snow expected later this week, Edwards is keeping his shovel close at hand, hoping for relief.

"Hopefully the city will come by and take this away," he said.

WDRB contacted several hardware stores in the area, and many reported they are awaiting new shipments of shovels, expected to arrive before Friday's anticipated snowfall.

Crews expect to have plows on the roads - especially smaller neighborhoods - around the clock for the next two days.
