LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some students at the University of Louisville rallied Thursday in support of people in Gaza.
The group, called "Students for Justice in Palestine," gathered on 3rd Street. Like many rallies on college campuses across the country, it wasn't a rally in support of the terrorist group Hamas.
One student, who wants to remain anonymous, said his family is in Jerusalem. He said he wants to educate people and speak out about the history of the conflict in this part of the world.
"The narrative concerning Palestine and Israel is very misconstrued, people act like these attacks happened out of a vacuum and were unprovoked but in reality these attacks were a culmination of 75 years of occupation and apartheid placed on the Palestinian people," he said.
The group said there will be another rally on Saturday.
The Jewish Federation of Louisville responded to Thursday's rally. They said in part, "We call on the people of Louisville to join us as we pray for peace and for justice and condemn Hamas' reign of terror."
