LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Travelers reached out to WDRB News Sunday morning and said they were stranded at Louisville's Greyhound bus station. Several of their tickets show they weren't even scheduled to stop in the city.

Dozens of people at the bus station on Broadway said they've been stranded from anywhere between a couple of hours to a couple of days.

"It was just about full up," Allen Deever said, describing the bus station early Sunday morning.

Deever is currently moving from Illinois to Florida, but this trip isn't going as planned.

"Maybe I'll get there in the next couple days," he said. "They keep changing my schedule."

He said he's been stuck at Louisville's Greyhound since the weekend started because his Saturday morning bus never showed.

Afraid to miss the next one, Deever sleeps up-right on an "uncomfortable" lobby bench next to several other stranded travelers.

"This the second time I've been stranded here," Mark Carter said. "People are sleeping on floors. It's sad."

Travelers said this isn't just a Louisville Greyhound issue.

"I spent a little over 24 hours in Indianapolis," Deever said. "Same thing there."

"I spent five days in Atlanta sleeping on the floors," James Charleston said.

These travelers said they're not getting anywhere with Greyhound's customer service line, which can be called at 1(800) 231-2222.

"You call and you call and you don't get any answers," Carter said.

About a dozen people said their rides were canceled because of Hurricane Helene. Others believe there aren't enough bus drivers because some buses are running.

"About time," Carter said when his bus arrived roughly 12 hours late. "Thank you."

But no matter the reason, they all said they feel frustrated and disrespected. When asked if he would use Greyhound again, Deever said "definitely not."

Greyhound sent WDRB a statement that said, "Due to the ongoing impacts and aftermath of Hurricane Helene, bus schedules across the eastern United States remain subject to changes, cancellations, and delays. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate our customers' patience and understanding during this time."

Greyhound moved its Louisville stop to a strip mall on West Broadway near 12th Street in 2023, after it sold its longtime bus station at 7th Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard. Greyhound tried to move to a permanent location on Preston Highway near the airport, but zoning issues put the brakes on that move.

Greyhound was sold to a European bus network, Flix Mobility, in 2021. According to a spokesman for Flix Mobility, Greyhound sold about 100 of its North American properties before the sale. Most the remaining Greyhound properties were sold to FirstGroup, which sold many of them to Twenty Lake in 2022.  Twenty Lake has been selling the remaining properties for development.

Louisville's longtime Greyhound station on Muhammad Ali Blvd. downtown was torn down earlier this year. LDG Development purchased the property in 2021 for $2.8 million and plans to build a five-story building 256 affordable housing apartment made up of one, two and three bedroom units.

Greyhound has had operations in downtown Louisville since the early 1900s, and was first at 5th Street and Broadway.
