LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Volunteers at the Bullitt County Animal shelter are calling on the director, Mark Williams, to resign.
They say animals are being abused and not cared for properly.
"I went to pick up my foster dog that I adopted, and she was covered in her own feces, and it was embedded in her collar," said Sherry Whittaker, a volunteer at the shelter.
Whittaker was one of several people who made complaints on Tuesday to the Bullitt County Fiscal Court.
She says the shelter is not following through on its policy to spay and neuter animals and that the dog she adopted was not fixed.
"I found out two weeks after I got her that she was pregnant, and she ended up having puppies," Whittaker said.
Bullitt County Judge Executive Melanie Roberts says she is taking notice of the complaints.
"I have issued a reprimand to Director Mark Williams … and there are other disciplinary actions that can be take,n and we're hoping the situation will be resolved,” Roberts said.
She is vowing to make sure the concerns are addressed.
"I am extremely concerned about those allegations, and as the judge executive, I will not tolerate any abuse of the animals, whatsoever."
Whittaker is also calling in to question how the director treats animals, claiming she saw him kick a dog to get it back in its cage.
She wants the county to find a new replacement for Williams, who took over the position in August of 2015.
"It's a step in the right process, but a reprimand to me isn't enough when you have a director that is abusing and neglecting animals,” Whittaker said.
Director Mark Williams declined our request to comment on this story.
