Improve 64 is part of INDOT's plan to reduce congestion and improve safety and travel in southern Indiana.
More than 150 trucks in the southeast part of Indiana will begin treating roads Thursday afternoon.
INDOT is in the early planning stages of adding lanes on Interstate 64, between Cherry Street and U.S. 150 in both directions in southern Indiana.
The ice storm began to impact the area in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Crews spent Friday treating especially rural roadways.
The Indiana Department of Transportation said crews are prepared to stay out Thursday until midnight, or later if needed.
The $14 million, two-lane road is designed to withstand vehicles weighing up to 134,000 pounds.
The structure originally failed in December 2015.
“It’s just a stupid idea to me,” said truck driver Jeremy Heath.
INDOT said the intersection at state Route 60 and the Salem Bypass is dangerous, and a roundabout would make it safer.
