LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's always nice to see a friend who makes you smile, and our own Marc Weinberg walked away smiling after bumping into LMPD Officer Nick Wilt at the Louisville Metro Police Foundation's annual fundraising event Saturday night.

Marc posed for a picture with Nick and posted it on his Facebook page.

Nick continues to recover from a traumatic brain injury more than a year after he and fellow Louisville Metro Police Officer Corey Galloway rushed to the scene of the mass shooting on April 10, 2023, at Old National Bank in downtown Louisville. Footage from Wilt's body-worn camera released the day after the shooting shows him driving, with Galloway in the passenger seat, as they pull up and are fired upon while still in their cruiser.

The video then shows the officers approaching the steps of the Preston Pointe building, where police said a shooter was firing from an elevated lobby area at 8:41 a.m. Wilt was shot in the head. It was his fourth day on the job. Galloway shot and killed the shooter a few minutes after Wilt was shot.

Wilt was rushed to UofL Hospital for brain surgery, leaving him in critical condition for weeks.

Nick and Marc ran into each other at the Louisville Metro Police Foundation's annual fundraising event. The organization is devoted to supporting the men and women with the Louisville Metro Police Foundation, and helps provide officers like Nick and their families with needed financial resources.

Nick and Marc are both fans of each other -- Nick even visited WDRB studios in April and helped Marc with his forecast.

Nick's story has been an inspiration for people around the country, as he continues to make remarkable progress in his recovery. His family said at the end of July that he is now walking without a cane and "constantly joking, smiling and laughing with us."

Marc said he always walks away with a smile after seeing and talking with Nick, and their latest meeting was no exception.
