LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — One of Louisville's most historic congregations is marking a major milestone this week as St. Stephen Baptist Church celebrates 100 years of ministry, service and community impact.
The centennial celebration began Wednesday night with a special concert featuring Joe Leavell and One Purpose. Church leaders said the event was meant to bring people together through worship while reflecting on the church's legacy over the last century.
The celebration continues throughout the week with another concert scheduled for Friday evening.
On Saturday, community members are invited to take part in a parade beginning at 10 a.m. The church will also unveil a historical marker recognizing its long-standing role in Louisville's history.
The weeklong observance will conclude Sunday with a special worship service.
All events are free and open to the public.
"We're gonna keep rolling, we're gonna keep going and we're building and we're adding more young people into what we're doing to get ready for the next 100 years," said Jason Clayborn, St. Stephen's minister of music and production.
