LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 65-year-old woman died after a head-on collision in Harrison County, Indiana, Tuesday morning.
It happened around 11 a.m. on Highway 135 and Lopp Circle Road in Mauckport, according to a news release from the Harrison County Sheriff's Department. That's where deputies responded after three vehicles were involved in a crash in the southbound lane of Highway 135.
The driver and passenger in one of the vehicles -- a white Chevrolet truck -- told investigators they were traveling southbound on Highway 135 when they saw a small black Honda SUV traveling northbound cross into the southbound lane of traffic.
The driver of the Chevrolet told police he had to drive on to the shoulder and into the guardrail to avoid a head-on collision with the SUV. Although he avoided hitting the SUV, another driver in a green Toyota pickup truck behind the Chevrolet was struck head-on by the SUV.
The driver of the Toyota told police he was behind the Chevrolet when he saw the Chevrolet driving into the shoulder of the road. That's when he noticed the Honda SUV, that was heading northbound, coming directly at him in the southbound lane. He said he hit the brakes and tried to move over, but there wasn't enough time to avoid the crash.
A witness at the scene told investigators they saw the Honda SUV traveling northbound in the southbound lane on the highway and saw it hit the Toyota head-on.
The driver of the Toyota was taken to the hospital for treatment for leg and back pain. The driver and passenger in the Chevrolet were not injured.
The SUV's driver -- 65-year-old Pamela Trostle -- was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been notified.
