LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is celebrating its busiest year ever.

The airport set a new all-time record in 2023 with more than 4.6 million total passengers. It's the second time in five years that the airport has broken its own record.

It's also the first time Louisville's airport was listed as one of the top 100 airports in the continental U.S.

In a written statement, Dann Man, the Louisville Regional Airport Authority executive director Dan Mann called the achievement "an amazing accomplishment."

"The fact that we’ve surpassed our previous record set in 2019 by nearly 10 percent is proof of the community's support as well as the positive relationships with our airlines," Mann said. "I want to say thank you to everyone including our staff, business partners and especially the community who use our airport and support the growth we’re experiencing."

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said the airport's success is the city's success.

"This airport is such an essential part to our continued growth in our city, to continuing to make our city safer, stronger and healthier," he said.

The airport also celebrated individual records for every month in 2023. The busiest month was October, when a total of 465,821 travelers using the airport.
