LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two bars in Louisville's Highlands neighborhood are now closed after failing to pay rent.
Both Nowhere Bar and Somewhere Bar on Bardstown Road have been evicted, property owner Lee Soper confirmed.
In January 2020, Christopher McKinney, 35, died after a fight with a bouncer outside Nowhere Bar.
The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office decided not to charge the bouncer after McKinney's death.
His widow, Nick Clark, sued the bar for wrongful death. The lawsuit claims that Justin Wright, a bouncer at the bar, had "anger issues," a history of domestic violence and had assaulted patrons prior to McKinney's death. The lawsuit was settled before it went to trial.
Clark has since pushed for safety legislation that would require bouncers to be trained in de-escalation tactics, first aid and physical maneuvers that require minimal application.
