LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police in New Albany are investigating a "possible homicide" after a woman was found dead inside a home Wednesday afternoon.
In a written statement Wednesday evening, Police Chief Todd Bailey said officers responded to the home in the 3400 block of Greenview Drive on a possible homicide just before 4 p.m. That's in a neighborhood off Green Valley Road, not far from Spickert Knob Road.
That's where police found the victim — now identified as 56-year-old Sally R. Samourian — dead inside the home. Bailey said a 23-year-old man who was also at the home was taken into custody but didn't specify whether he was charged.
In a subsequent written statement, Bailey referred to the man as a suspect who "is currently in custody under guard at a hospital in Louisville. He is currently being treated for an unrelated issue to the case and his apprehension."
Bailey's statement said it's not clear when the man will be returned to Floyd County. He said there are no other suspects no threat to public safety.
"New Albany is a very safe community with little violent crime," Bailey said in the statement. "Cases like this are shocking when they occur." He asked anyone with additional information to call the New Albany Police Department at 812-948-5300.
Indiana State Police is assisting in the investigation.
