LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Seven people have been sentenced to federal prison for stealing and trafficking 240 firearms from an Indianapolis shipping center.
According to court documents, Bruce Williams and Ryan Hurt were employees at a shipping facility. They worked on a scheme to steal firearms and sell the guns for profit.Â
Malyk Mendez and Antonio Grant were accomplices, according to court documents. The guns were sold to Kevin Jones, Jr., Dominique Ellison and Zackary Doss.
Jones and Doss sold the guns to numerous other people.Â
According to a news release, the group made off with 240 guns from four separate shipments headed for different states between January and March 2022.Â
ATF agents noticed firearms sent through the Indianapolis terminal were missing key inventory. The stolen guns included 174 9mm semi-automatic handguns, 13 .38 caliber revolvers, two .22 caliber revolvers, 38 .45 caliber semi-automatic handguns, five semi-automatic handguns and eight 10mm semi-automatic handguns.
According to a news release, of the 240 guns stolen, only 61 have been recovered as May 5, 2025.Â
"Stolen firearms are a major source of crime guns for violent offenders and pose a serious threat to public safety," John E. Childress, Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, said in a news release. "Working with our law enforcement partners, we're committed to stopping gun traffickers, recovering stolen weapons, and keeping them out of the hands of dangerous individuals."
