LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana University's national football championship is bringing good fortune to the university's student-run newspaper.

The championship issue of the Indiana Daily Student was snatched up just hours after it hit newsstands. New front page replicas are now being sold for $5 a piece, and sales from the replicas have already brought in more than $150,000 for the paper.

This comes just months after the university cut print editions of the paper but backtracked that decision about two weeks later. Student journalists said they hope the replica sales send a message that print journalism matters.

"For all of student media and for all of campus, we always hear this word of innovation, like 'Oh, there's innovation happening everywhere across campus,'" Mia Hilkowitz, IDS co-editor-in-chief, told FOX59 News. "And I think what this really shows (is that) real innovation is going to happen with more investment and for allowing this level of flexibility and creativity rather than cuts that we've seen in the past."

A Big Ten Championship poster has already earned the paper about $17,000.
