LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The American Printing House for the Blind hosted its annual Abacus Bee this weekend.
It all took place Saturday at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Louisville Downtown.
This marked the third year American Printing House has held the Abacus Bee. It's the only national abacus competition for students who are blind or have low vision, and encourages the use of mental math and abacus skills.
The competition is broken down into five categories: Starters, movers, riders, flyers and blasters.
Students can use print, braille, UEB math or Nemeth code.
"An abacus is a tool for blind users, so you have the ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions, one millions, billions," said Lee Rivera, who competed in the Abacus Bee. "It goes all the way up to the trillions."
Winners from each abacus group were announced during a special awards ceremony.
