LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Students at Audubon Elementary School got a big welcome from some excited dads Wednesday morning.

Firefighters and fraternity members surprised the students with applause and high fives as they arrived for classes.

It was all part of "Flash Dads," a Jefferson County Public Schools diversity program created six years ago.

"Why do this?" asked Erika Walker, the principal of Audubon Elementary School. "We do this because it energizes the kids and lets them know, not only do they have fathers in their homes, or they may not have fathers in their homes, but we have male figures that are encouraging them to be here at school."

Each month, the Flash Dads visit a different JCPS school. The next school is always a surprise.
